It has been interesting making lesson plans of West African dance for the 3rd graders– some of the movement combinations and rhythms are just a little advanced for them so it takes time and effort to accurately portray teh movement sequences. To my surprise however, they seem to love this repetition! We go back and forth across the floor, repeat the same steps in unison in the center of the space and after we have done this with two or so steps, the time is up, and the kids cry out- “Nooooo! It’s already over??” Which is just ridiculous for me because we’ve been running around all lesson. It’s so much fun to still be in the classroom with these little bundles of joy– the elation I get every week is always totally worth it.
