Week 1: AimPrint Class Discussion
Discussing sharing our own work with our students was a very hot topic for our discussion group this afternoon in class. I am somewhat conflicted on this, because by showing one aesthetic of style of dance, the students tend to imitate you, and are somewhat closed off to their own ideas of movement. I think it is important to demonstrate for your students, however not to overpower them with your own work, so that they are drowned by your personal preferences and aesthetics. It is true that the work being produced today is built on the work of our past generations, and by demonstrating our work to the students we are exposing them to a great variety and perhaps exposing them to even more artistic opportunities. I think it is important to expose students to your own work, but not initially, and only after they have been exposed to other artists’ works and allow themselves to create their own work.
